How it all started...
In 1912, Reverend M.A. Walker set out to the Hiwassee community with faith to establish a new church. Going door to door, the reverend introduced the fairly new organization to the people in the Short Bark area. Meeting in a shack, also known as a brush arbor, that he had built, his followers were faithful and began meeting in their homes. On September 14, 1913, along with 9 charter members, Reverend Walker established The Hiwassee Church of God.
Expanding the vision...
Staying true to the mission of Jesus Christ, the Hiwassee Church of God has reached out to the community, becoming a place of refuge to those in need. They have endured persecution, a church fire, a great depression, world wars and a few pandemics, and have still remained strong until this day, with the relentless drive to seek and to save that which was lost.
Where we are headed...
Moving forward, we desire to see a mighty move of God that would ignite the fires of revival, changing the spiritual landscape of our region. Because we need Jesus. Our children, our family and friends, the stranger need Jesus! We care for our community and we want to show the love of God to a world that is lost without Him.
We need revival.
We need revival.
